FORDSVILLE - 

Dolores Helen Huff, 89, passed away peacefully at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital on Saturday Dec 9, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.  She was a member of St Mary of the Woods Parish in Whitesville.  She was born on Jan 2, 1934 in Gary, IN to the late John and Helen Koldus.  She was an RN graduate of St Mary Mercy Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as an ER Nurse in Gary for many years marrying her 1st husband Robert G. Robbins, and starting her family (6 kids).  She later moved to Fordsville with her 2nd husband James S. Huff adding 2 more to the bunch.  She also worked as an Administrator and Director of Nurses in Nursing & Rehabilitation facilities located in Fordsville and Owensboro.  Dolores & Jim were very active in Veterans Organizations in Owensboro.  She held various offices on a State level as well as in her local Unit 4 over the years, including KY State Commander and Unit Commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

 

Dolores loved to travel especially cruising with her family. She enjoyed going to Casinos, slot machines were her favorite.  She had a unique sense of humor that was never lost and she shared it with family and friends especially during the intense and competitive Farkle and Phase 10 games.

 

She was preceded in death by her 1st husband of 13 years Robert Robbins and her 2nd husband of 43 years Jim Huff, her beloved son Bill Huff, her beloved sister Jean Schmidt and brothers John & William Koldus.

 

She leaves behind to cherish her many happy memories:  Daughters - Sandy, Christine, Dianne, and Andrea, Sons - Michael (Marlene), Jeffrey (Jacquie), and Eugene (Suzanne), her Favorite Nephews - Tony and Mark, 12 Grand Children, 12 Great Grand Children, and Brother-In-Law -Raymond (Doris) Huff.

 

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church in Fordsville, with burial in New Hope Cemetery.  Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Geary Funeral Home and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.
