Sandra Ann “Nanny” Tierney, 72, of Whitesville, passed away May 16, 2025 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. 

She was born October 20, 1952 to the late Earl B. and Mildred Johnson.  She was a member of Newton Springs Baptist Church and served her community as a nurse for over 30 years. She viewed her nursing as a mission and calling to serve others.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Allen Johnson.

She is survived by her high school sweetheart and  husband of 53 years, Denny Tierney; sons Jason (Mary) Tierney, Brian (Terri) Tierney, and niece who was like a daughter, Angel (Ben) Lynn; grandchildren Tyler (Kati) Stevens, Lee Michael (Jaden) Tierney, Samantha Tierney; great-grandchildren Fallon, Kyson and Hazel; brother Phillip (Becky) Johnson; sisters Cathy Bickett and Lizzy Staples; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Newton Springs Baptist Church in Fordsville. Visitation will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville and from 10am until service time at the church Tuesday with burial to follow in Fordsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness in memory of Sandy.
